Hello, my friend. Well, administration bothers, I know. I think that it is necessary that you arrive at airport at least three hours before your flight. I know that this is insane. But, those are the rules. You have a special check-in area at FCO that is reserved for flights to USA and Israel. I think that you need to show your passport to an armed security guard at check-in point. Then the personal of airline security will interview you. As a proof that you've been interviewed, they'll put a sticker in your passport. I strongly recommend you not to remove it before you arrive at USA. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate asking me.
