In that case, I can suggest you San Francisco for starters. As opposed to Los Angeles which is considered to be showbiz oriented and gaudy, San Francisco with Berkeley just up north is considered to be a more artistic and educational center of California. Maybe I’m a bit harsh on LA. I actually have nothing against it, but I prefer SF and its streetcars and its Painted Ladies as well as its colorful spirit, multiculturalism and so on. I guess that northern parts are also counting and that’s why I’d suggest you to take a plane in SF and fly directly to Seattle. The Emerald City and its surrounding boast beautiful vistas. Mount Rainier is also very near and you can visit it also.
