My husband wants to take us to Guyana in South America. He heard some nice stories about the country from his “buddy” and now all of us are going there to see it for ourselves. I usually don’t like to go to some unknown place but this sounds interesting. Can someone tell me where to go with kids in New Amsterdam, Guyana?

You won’t find Disneyland, Theme water parks or the usual fun spots for kids. After all, it is not Florida, Caribbean, Hawaii or San Diego. However, it is a nice place for family vacation since the nature is really beautiful there and kids can learn a lot about it first-hand.

There is one very nice spot called the Esplanade. Essentially, it is an open public ground located opposite the Gardens and west of Esplanade Road. It used to be a very popular picnic spot and many people used to go there on a date. British Guiana Militia Band used to play there.

I think that those theme parks for kids are grossly overrated. Our kids don’t know how to have fun without TV, computer games or big theme parks. I don’t think that it is good. I went to Africa with my kids this summer. There weren’t any theme parks or the usual fun spots. Yet, according to them, it was the best trip they have ever been on.
